General Information

The Summer School for Biblical Study in Oxford was inaugurated in 1903, and was known until recently as the Vacation Term for Biblical Study (V.T.B.S.). It has always been highly esteemed for the academic quality of its courses. Many leading British biblical scholars of the 20th century have taught at the Term.

St. Anne’s College, situated between the Woodstock and Banbury Roads and adjacent to University Parks, is the inspiring setting for the Summer School which meets annually for two weeks at the end of July and the beginning of August.(See Map)

People now come from as far afield as Australia and the USA, as well as from all parts of the UK, to participate in the friendly atmosphere of the School. While most members reside in St. Anne’s, local non-residents also attend the lectures and classes of their choice.

From its earliest days the Summer School has enabled teachers, students, ministers and laity to deepen their understanding of biblical literature and to keep abreast of current scholarship.

Each week's programme is complete in itself so that one can attend and enjoy either one or both weeks of study.

In addition to a full and stimulating programme of courses, there is ample time for socializing, visiting Oxford's colleges, museums and bookshops, or relaxing with friends in a punt on the Cherwell.
